THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police had to use water cannon to disperse Kerala Congress (M) (KC-M) activists who tried to break the police cordon on Thursday during a march to the official residence of Education Minister M.A. Baby to protest against the politicisation of education.
The march was taken out from the Martyrs’ Column via Nanthencode to the Cliff House premises. It was stopped by the city police near Devaswom Board junction by erecting barricades.
As a section of the activists tried to pull down the barricades, the police used water cannon to disperse the protestors.
Later addressing the party activists, party leader K.M. Mani cautioned the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government against implementing its “hidden agenda” in the education sector. Mr. Mani alleged that Communist ideology was being forced on students. He demanded withdrawal of textbooks that were against religion and culture.
Meanwhile, the museum police registered a case against Mr. Mani, Joseph M. Puthuserry, Thomas Chazhikadan, Roshy Augustine, all MLAs, Jose K. Mani and 300 other party activists.
