MALAPPURAM: A total of 36 kg of ganja, estimated at several lakhs of rupees in the black market, was seized in two separate cases in the district on Monday.

The first seizure took place at Perinthalmanna, leading to the detection of a ganja racket that used to supply the drug to the entire Malabar.

Pandichami, alias Andiyappan, 53, of Attappadi was rounded up from the Perinthalmanna Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus-stand with two kg of ganja.

The police later recovered 31 kg of ganja from his Attappadi house.

Police sources said the ganja recovered from Attappadi belonged to the ‘Neelachadayan’ group, which can fetch nearly Rs.3.5 lakh in the black market.

In another case, excise officers seized 3.6 kg of ganja from Parappanangadi in the district. Autorickshaw driver Anil Kumar, 23, and his father, Kotha, 52, were detained with the ganja.
