One arrested in counterfeit note case

KOCHI: The Special Investigation Group-II of Ernakulam Crime Branch arrested the main accused in a counterfeit currency case registered nine years ago.

 

The accused was identified as Ashraf, 42, son of Bava, Parippel Veedu, Kakkanadu. He was charged with attempting to spend 99 fake notes of denominations Rs. 100 at Palluruthy on March 4, 1999. The Palluruthy police registered a case on this, which was later handed over to the Crime Branch.

 

Another accused in the case, Louis from Fort Kochi, was arrested earlier. Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court-II had issued arrest warrants for Ashraf. He had been absconding since then.

 

The Crime Branch team learnt that the accused was hiding in Palluruthy, Mattanchery, Coimbatore, Pollachi and Thrikkakara before reaching Nilampathinjamukal near Kakkanadu, from where he was arrested on Monday.
